The Skinny on Sports Report on 96.5FM KECO

The End of an Era

For the last 59 years, the Ron Norick Arena, affectionately known as The Big House, has been the site for State Basketball Tournaments in the state of Oklahoma. This spring marks the final season in the old barn before moving across the parking lot to the new Big House.

OSSAA’s Commemorative Announcement

To commemorate the final season in the Big House, the OSSAA announced this afternoon that every single class will play State Tournament games at the Fairgrounds. This significant change will cause a slight shift in the usual schedule of events.

Changes in Tournament Schedules

The Class 2A state basketball tournament will move up a week and be held the same week as the A & B State Tournaments. These tournaments will begin on Tuesday, March 4th, and run through Saturday, March 8th. The 3A-6A tournaments will start on Monday, March 10th, and continue through Saturday, March 16th.

Playing in The Big House

Every team that qualifies for the State Tournament will have the opportunity to play at least one game in the historic Big House. All the title games will be held in the Big House, though some semifinals will need to be played at other locations due to scheduling constraints.

A Historic Farewell

This final season at the Big House promises to be a memorable one, celebrating nearly six decades of basketball history before transitioning to the new venue.
