Elk City resident and Beckham County Sheriff Derek Manning was unanimously approved last week by the Oklahoma State Senate to serve as a member of the Oklahoma State Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs Control Commission.
The executive nomination was carried by Sen. Darcy Jech, R-Kingfisher.
Manning is the Beckham County Sheriff and previously spent 18 years in law enforcement working as state trooper for the Oklahoma Highway Patrol. Along with his wife, Holly, Manning also founded the Elk Citian newspaper in 2003.

In a press release, Jech says “Sheriff Manning’s years of experience in law enforcement will bring a valuable perspective to the Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs Control Commission,” Jech went on to say “He is a true leader with a strong sense of professionalism, and I know he will serve our communities well in this position.”
Manning will serve an unexpired term ending Dec. 31, 2022.
