The Clinton City Council has found their guy.

After meeting in special session Thursday morning, the city council decided to hire Robert Johnston to become the city’s next city manager. Johnston will travel north to Clinton up U.S 183 from Frederick where he has served in the same role since 1993.

Mayor David Berrong says Johnston checked all the boxes when it came to meeting the qualifications for the job.

This isn’t Johnston’s first stop in Clinton. Berrong says he served as the Public Works Director for eight years.

Berrong says the council will more than likely formally approve the hire during the regular city council meeting scheduled for Tuesday night. He says Johnston’s first day on the job could be sometime around late September or early October.
