Elk City has encountered a good problem to have: attracting out of town visitors to visit the baseball / softball 5-plex fields in Ackley Park West. The problem? Parking.
City Manager Tom Ivester says currently Kids Inc., who conducts league play at the fields, currently has about 140 teams combined for this season’s baseball and softball leagues, and says nearly every weekend, tournaments are being conducted at the venues – which creates issues with parking.
Ivester says last weekend was no exception.
Ivester says despite the inconvenience of having to walk a littler farther, the parking lot between the two complexes are big enough to handle the anticipated amount of vehicles.
He says other parking options include the parking lot at Elk City Elementary and the Western Technology Center.
In other city recreational news, Ivester says city crews have been busy getting Elk Lake ready for summer activities.
Ivester noted that city merchants and restaurants are seeing an increase of activity lately, due to the tournaments at the 5-plex fields, the lifting of covid restrictions, and warm weather.
