The Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma has announced free meals and snacks will be available to children across central and western Oklahoma, including at two locations in Elk City.
In a press release, food bank officials say children lose their most reliable source of meals when schools transition to summer break and that the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma’s Summer Feeding Program offers free, nutritious meals at more than 100 sites to any child 18 and under.
Stacy Dykstra, chief executive officer of the Regional Food Bank, says they have partners in 23 counties across central and western Oklahoma providing crucial nutrition to children this summer.
In Beckham County, meals and snacks are available to children at Help Inc. located at 609 W. E Ave. every Monday and Wednesday from 10:00am – 3:00pm, and also at the Elk City Junior High Cafeteria located at 501 N. Oliver Ave. every Monday through Thursday from 11:00am – 1:00pm.
Meals will also be provided at the Leedey Public School every Monday through Thursday from 12:00pm – 12:20pm.
Officials say The Regional Food Bank prepares and packs the meals and snacks in its production kitchen, and then delivers them to community-based partner agencies who distribute it to children in their communities.
Summer meals are provided through support from the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Food Bank officials also said meals will be provided equally and without charge to all children age 18 and younger.
