Oklahoma state prisons, including North Fork Correctional Center in Sayre has been put on lock down with no visitation following what prison officials call a “disturbance” among about a half dozen inmates at a separate prison in Stringtown, the state Department of Corrections said Tuesday.

There were no serious injuries as a result of the disturbance Monday night at Mack Alford Correctional Center in Stringtown, about 105 miles southeast of Oklahoma City, said DOC spokesman Matt Elliott.

Elliott said the cause of the disturbances is under investigation and the lock down was ordered after investigators have learned of more potential violence at other state prisons.

According to a DOC press release the lockdown will remain until the threat of additional incidents has subsided.

DOC officials said that all visitation is suspended while the lockdown is in effect. The public should check the department’s social media before planning visitation.

All state prisons, including North Fork Correctional Center, were locked down in September after an outbreak of apparent gang-related violence left one inmate dead and more than a dozen injured.
