Governor Kevin Stitt and State Superintendent of Schools Joy Hofmeister announced Wednesday that $16 million in federal grants will be dispersed among 150 Oklahoma school districts, including some school districts in the area.
The funds are aimed at helping districts affected by COVID-19.
According to a press release, Elk City Schools will receive just over $136,000, Sayre gets just under $100,000, Clinton will get just under $183,000, Mangum receives just under $34,000, Cordell will receive $100,000 and Taloga will receive $45,500.
The Oklahoma State Department of Education will contribute $8 million to the Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief Fund. The remaining $8 million will come from the Governor’s Emergency Relief Fund.
Both funds are parts of the CARES Act. Language in the CARES Act requires funds from the state’s department of education to meet “emergency needs.”
Funds from the Governor’s Emergency Relief Fund must go to schools districts that are “most significantly impacted by coronavirus.”
