By News Director Jared Atha

Roger Mills County Election Board Secretary Jana Maddux announced today that the Cheyenne, Sayre, and Merritt School Districts have opted to close certain polling places in Roger Mills County for the Board of Education General Election scheduled on April 5, 2022.

State law allows a to school district close a precinct polling place for an election if the entire precinct is not contained within the district’s boundaries and if fewer than 100 registered voters reside in the part of the precinct that is inside the district.

Precincts that have been closed for each school district are as follows:

Cheyenne School District – Precinct 101 (Dempsey Community Bldg.)

Precinct 201 (Hammon Senior Citizens)

Precinct 301 (Reydon Senior Citizens)

Sayre School District – Precinct 102 (Berlin Community Bldg.)

Merritt School District – Precinct 102 (Berlin Community Bldg.)

Voters who are registered in the closed precincts at addresses located in the Cheyenne, Sayre, or Merritt School Districts will receive an absentee ballot application from the County Election Board. Voters should complete, sign, and return the application form to the County Election Board to have an absentee ballot mailed to them. Voters can also apply for absentee ballots online using the OK Voter Portal at okvoterportal.okelections.us. Applications for absentee ballots must be received by the County Election Board no later than 5p.m. on Monday, March 21, 2022, for this election.

Most absentee ballots must be mailed to the County Election Board; however, “standard” absentee ballots may be mailed or hand-delivered to the County Election Board. Hand-delivered ballots must be received no later than the end of business day, the Monday prior to the election. Mailed absentee ballots must be received by the County Election Board no later than 7p.m. on election night.

Voters may also vote during early voting at the County Election Board office from 8a.m. until 6p.m. on Thursday, March 31, 2022, or Friday, April 1, 2022. No excuse is needed.

Any registered voter in the listed precincts who believes that he or she may reside in the Cheyenne, Sayre, or Merritt School District and who has not yet received an absentee ballot application from the County Election Board should contact the County Election Board office immediately.
