After last week’s public approval of a bond issue for the construction of a new middle school and other various school improvements in the district, the Clinton Public School Board has taken the first steps in bringing the proposed projects to reality.

During their regular board meeting on Monday night, the school board approved authorizing the sale of the district’s 2022 General Obligation Building Bonds, the first series that gives the district $3.2 million to begin the project.

The payments on the bonds will begin in two years in the amount of $800,000 – as allowed by state law.

During the meeting, Superintendent Tyler Bridges said a meeting will take place Thursday with architects with Clarence Williams Associates, in Oklahoma City, and Joe D. Hall Construction, in Elk City, to begin finalizing details for the bond’s bid projects.

Speaking with Paragon Communications, Bridges said although there will be demolition required at Nance, Southwest, and Washington Elementary Schools – the middle school will remain intact, even though it will not be used once the new campus is built.

During Monday night’s meeting, Bridges noted that if certain items at the sites could be salvaged and reused – that would be done.

He said an estimated timeline to begin demolition is near September.
