Unemployment Rate Low Throughout Western Oklahoma

The latest unemployment data provided by the Oklahoma Employment Security Commission shows solid numbers for area counties.

Statewide the unemployment rate through the month of August was at 3.1%, down 0.4% when compared to a year ago.

Locally Beckham County was slightly on par with the state’s average showing a 3.3% unemployment rate, down 0.6% from last year. Custer County was unchanged with 3% of the county reported to be unemployed while Washita County was at 3.6%, down 0.2% from last year.

Roger Mills County was unchanged at 2.8%.

The county with the lowest unemployment rate in Oklahoma was Cimarron County in the panhandle, coming in at 1.4%. McIntosh County in the eastern part of the state came in with the highest unemployment rate at 5.7%.

The national unemployment rate through the month of August is 3.7%.
