It was a busy 12 hours and more at polling places throughout the state and country for the midterm elections.
Locally, in Washita County Democrat Greg Chandler edged out Republican Floyd King for the District No. 3 County Commissioner seat by obtaining just 18 more votes to obtain the win.
Washita County resident and former District 55 Representative Todd Russ won the State Treasurer position by obtaining 64% approval.
U.S. Congressman Frank Lucas of Cheyenne has won re-election over challenger Jeremiah Ross by getting 74% of the vote.
In fact, Republican candidates for Oklahoma’s major races made a clean sweep in Tuesday’s elections, winning all five U.S. House seats, the two U.S. Senate offices and all of the state leadership offices including the re-election of Gov. Kevin Stitt.
Congressman Markwayne Mullin was elected to succeed U.S. Sen. Jim Inhofe who will retire in January 2023. Mullin joins Sen. James Lankford who won re-election in Tuesday’s voting. Mullin received 62% of the votes compared to 35% for former congresswoman Kendra Horn.
Sen. Lankford received nearly 65% of the votes in his re-election bid, easily handling a challenge by Democrat Madison Horn with 32%.;
U.S. Reps. Kevin Hern, Stephanie Bice, Tom Cole along with Lucas were re-elected with easy victories while former State Sen. Josh Brecheen won Rep. Mullin’s U.S. House seat. Brecheen received more than 72% of the votes cast in the election.
Of the Representatives, Hern had 61%; Lucas at 76%; Tom Cole 67%; and Stephanie Bice with 59%.
Gov. Stitt won re-election with 66% of the votes in a challenge by Republican-turned-Democrat Joy Hofmeister who ended up with 41%.
Lieutenant-Governor Matt Pinnell received 61% in his re-election victory.
Gentner Drummond won in his second try to become Attorney General, receiving 74% of the votes.
Ryan Walters beat Jena Nelson in the race for State Superintendent of Public Instruction. He received 57% while Nelson got 43% of the votes.
Leslie Osborne was re-elected Labor Commissioner and received 66% of the votes.
