An Arkansas man who led authorities on a high speed pursuit recently has received multiple felony charges in Beckham County District Court.

A passenger with the defendant during the chase would tell authorities that the man was wanting a “suicide by cop”.

According to court records 46-year-old David William Brown of Mountain Home, Arkansas received, among others, kidnapping and eluding charges on March 27 after leading authorities from the Beckham County Sheriff’s Department and Oklahoma Highway Patrol on the pursuit on March 21.

A probable cause affidavit showed that on the afternoon of March 21 a be on the look out for the pickup that Brown was allegedly driving was issued by Elk City Police, and was located a short time later on Interstate 40 by a sheriff’s deputy. The affidavit said that after refusing to pull over during an attempted traffic stop, Brown would allegedly exit I-40 and lead authorities on a high speed pursuit through county roads. Brown would also allegedly run through three fences during the pursuit while driving through fields.

Later, authorities were told by a passenger in the vehicle that Brown would snort methamphetamine during the chase, and would allegedly punch her dog.

The affidavit stated that the pursuit would come to an end after the vehicle would crash into a creek.

After a short stand off, Brown would exit the vehicle and was arrested.

The affidavit said that during a search of the vehicle, police would find what would later field test positive as being meth, a pistol, several ID’s not belonging to either Brown or the passenger, drug paraphernalia, a Texas license plate and a large bag containing GPS equipment belonging to the Forestry Department.

Bond for Brown was initially denied. His next court date is scheduled for May 8.
