The Spring sports playoffs are well underway, and Elk City’s baseball team is off to a great start in the Class 4A Regional tournament. The Big Elks secured two wins in the tournament opener yesterday at Ackley Park. In Game 1, the Elks blanked Mt. St Mary 4-0, with senior Cooper Church throwing a dominant 7-inning shutout. Game 2 saw Chickasha score 6 runs in the top of the 6th to down Sulphur 10-4, setting up a winner’s bracket clash between Elk City and Chickasha. Junior Kash Mayfield threw a 7-inning shutout, leading the Elks to a 2-0 win.
Shutout Performances and Home Runs
Cooper Church was the star of Game 1, scattering 3 hits, striking out 8 with only one walk issued. His brother Collin and Aiden Hopper both hit solo homeruns, fueling the Big Elks’ offense. In Game 2, Mayfield went all 7 innings, giving up 4 hits, striking out 17 with 4 walks. Senior catcher Cale Poole went 2-3 with both RBIs.

Today’s games feature an elimination match between Chickasha and Mt. St. Mary, with the winner facing off against Elk City this afternoon. If Elk City falls today, and if necessary game will take place at noon tomorrow, which can be watched on bigelktv.com.
