With the latest Oklahoma legislative session complete, one local lawmaker reflects on this year’s gathering and talks about a couple bills that he successfully got passed.
In an exclusive interview with Paragon Communications, Rep. Anthony Moore of Clinton says out of the multiple bills he got signed, the one he is most proud of was actually co-authored by then Arapaho-Butler High School senior Katie Edelen. The “Orange Alert” bill will alert local residents when there is an escaped individual from law enforcement.
Moore said Edelen came up with the idea of the bill after a family member was kidnapped by an escapee.
Another bill Moore said he’s proud of is the bill that will remove civil liability from school cafeterias and restaurants that wish to donate leftover food to food banks and needy families, and a bill that gives teachers 6 weeks of paid maternity leave.
Moore says he’s already looking ahead to next year’s session.
Moore said during his time off, outside of time with friends and family, he plans to attend multiple leadership conferences.
