Texas authorities were led on a high speed pursuit Saturday night that saw the suspect attempt to ram pursuing vehicles.

According to the Wheeler County Sheriff’s Department, the incident began at 7:00 p.m. Saturday when deputies observed a GMC Sierra pickup that they had known to be reported stolen out of Canadian, Texas earlier in the day.

Deputies attempted to make a traffic stop on the vehicle where it came to a brief stop before taking off at a high rate of speed.

Deputies pursued the vehicle east bound on Texas State Highway 152 when it began to swerve at deputies before coming to a stop in the middle of the highway. Once deputies were stopped and attempting to exit their units to conduct a felony stop on the suspect the suspect proceeded to accelerate in reverse towards the deputies in attempt to ram them with the vehicle.

Fortunately deputies were able to avoid the suspect vehicle.

The suspect then turned the vehicle around and began evading deputies west bound on 152 back into Wheeler City Limits where the Wheeler County Precinct 1 Constable’s office joined the pursuit.

The vehicle would weave through Wheeler city streets before it headed south on US Highway 83 where a Texas Department of Public Safety Trooper was able to successfully spike the suspect’s tires. After another short pursuit, the vehicle would come to stop – however the suspect, later identified as being Brennon Joel Meyers, would lead law enforcement on a short foot pursuit before being taken into custody.

Meyers was charged with multiple felony and misdemeanor charges that included unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, evading arrest in a motor vehicle, evading arrest, 2 counts of aggravated assault of a public servant, deadly conduct, and reckless driving.
