Drought conditions for western Oklahoma appear to be returning.

According to the latest data released by the U.S. Drought Monitor, the majority of the region is described as being “abnormally dry” with “moderate”, “severe”, and even “extreme” conditions setting in in southwest Oklahoma.

Oklahoma State Climatologist Gary McManus says due to the recent excessive heat, he says a flash drought is starting to set in.

McManus says only 13% of the state was in drought conditions on August 8, today that amount is up to 36%.

Unfortunately there does not appear to be any relief in sight with temperatures forecasted to be in the high 90s with no rain chances all next week.
