Two Propositions Approved in Two Western Oklahoma Counties

Voters in two western Oklahoma counties overwhelmingly supported propositions on Tuesday.

In Beckham County, voters passed a proposition with 94% approval. The measure will continue a one-tenth sales tax for another ten years for the purpose of distributing equal shares of collection to all fire departments in the county. The collected sales tax monies will be used for maintenance, operations and capital outlay expenditures including apparatus acquisitions or upgrade and maintenance for existing apparatus, equipment, safety gear, operations, planning, training, or training related expenses, new building construction or improvements on existing facilities but not personal services.

The tax will commence on February 1.

Washita County voters approved a proposition with 90% saying yes to continue a tax as well. The approved extension will continue a 1.25 percent county sales tax, with funds from those tax dollars distributed to the Washita County Justice Center, The county general fund, eleven fire departments, two ambulance services, the OSU Extension Office and 4H Program, four senior citizens centers and the Washita County Fair.
