More details released surrounding the felony charges filed against a Custer City man accused to be in possession of and distributing child pornography.

Court records show that 51-year-old Richard Coit Junior was charged on January 31 with distribution of obscene material or child pornography, violation of Oklahoma statute via a computer, and possession of a firearm while on probation.

The probable cause affidavit filed by the Custer County Sheriff’s Office showed that the investigation into Coit began on December 15 when the office received a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children that was originally submitted by the online messaging service “Kik”.

The tip indicated that Coit had allegedly uploaded three inappropriate pictures to the messaging service, and after obtaining a search warrant, authorities were able to obtain all media on the account – including selfies of the defendant. Later, investigators were able to match the selfies with pictures on his Facebook page.

After obtaining a search warrant, deputies would seize multiple electronic devices that could have media on them, including the defendants phone.

A search of the phone would find the Kik app along with the photos that prompted the investigation.

Also during a search of the home, deputies would find three firearms.

Bond for Coit was originally set at $250,000. A preliminary hearing conference has been scheduled for March 1.
