Five additional counties, including one in Western Oklahoma, are now eligible to apply for Disaster Unemployment Assistance.

The Oklahoma Employment Security Commission has announced that they are accepting applications after recent severe storms and tornadoes struck those counties and communities.

Washita County has been added since the announcement came out on May 17.

Washita County, in particular the Town of Cordell, was struck by an EF-1 rated tornado which caused damage to the community and surrounding area on April 30.

DUA is an unemployment insurance benefit for disaster victims who lost their jobs, job offers, or businesses.

In total, now 13 counties can apply for Disaster Unemployment Assistance. Along with Washita County, the other counties include Carter, Hughes, Kay, Lincoln, Love, Murray, Okfuskee, Okmulgee, Osage, Pontotoc, Pottawatomie, and Washington.

For more information or questions, call the Unemployment Service Center at 405-525-1500 or visit one of OESC’s field offices.

The deadline to submit a DUA claim is July 1.
