The latest sales tax numbers are in and once again two out of three of western Oklahoma’s larger communities collected over $1 million.

The latest numbers reflect sales tax intake from the month of May.

Starting with those cities, the City of Elk City saw a 5.1% increase by collecting $1,300,773.85. The City of Weatherford was down by 7.9% but still brought in $1,080,453.86 and the City of Clinton was down 4.9% after collecting $566,181.26.

By comparison, the City of Altus was barely down at 0.3% with an intake of $1,111,073.12 of sales tax dollars and Woodward saw a 1.4% decrease by bringing in $1,133,195.18.

Smaller communities in the area had Sayre down 20% ($140,041.85), Mangum saw a decrease of 3.7% ($48,631.43), Hobart up 7.6% ($137,619.72) and Cordell down 0.7% ($97,931.54).

The state as a whole was down 0.6% by collecting $236,262,520.41 in the month of May.

Couple Arrested for Alleged Child Neglect

Elk City, OK – A Carter couple, 39-year-old Tara Dyer and 43-year-old Matthew Dyer, are out on bond after being arrested on December 27, 2024, on allegations of enabling child neglect involving their 16-year-old son. Authorities report
