SWOSU Press Release

Southwestern Oklahoma State University (SWOSU) has named Ashton Cockrell of Cheyenne, Devin Mosser of Sayre, and Senaart (Cindy) Chanchanok of Cheyenne as the F.K. Buster Scholars for Academic Year 2024-2025.

Cockrell is a Senior at SWOSU majoring in Microbiology Medical Laboratory Science with a minor in Chemistry.

Mosser is a Freshman at SWOSU majoring in Radiologic Technologies with a minor in Business.

Chanchanok is a Senior at SWOSU majoring in Medical Laboratory Technician.

Mr. Eddie Tom Lakey, a 1969 SWOSU Alumnus and Past Chair of the SWOSU Foundation Inc, established the F.K. Buster Scholarship fund in 2004 to assist a high school graduate of Cheyenne, Reydon, Hammon, or Sayre Public Schools or any Roger Mills County high school graduate who is studying to pursue a career in the health or medical field.

Dr. Frank Kendrick Buster earned his Medical Doctorate from the University of Texas-Southwestern in Dallas. He began his medical practice in Erick, Oklahoma, before relocating to Cheyenne in 1951 where he practiced medicine for 53 years. Dr. Buster served as Roger Mills County’s only doctor for many years; people would later say it took two doctors and a physician’s assistant to replace him. He was not only the county’s doctor but also an avid supporter and friend to all.

The F.K. Buster Scholarship Fund is stewarded by the SWOSU Foundation, Inc. The Foundation was established in 1977 to promote philanthropy, award scholarships, and distribute funds to support the activities and programs of SWOSU. For more information about The F.K. Buster Scholarship or any SWOSU Foundation funds, please contact 580-774-3267 or visit www.SWOSUFoundation.com.
