It was a busy weekend in high school sports, covering everything from district football matchups to playoff fast-pitch softball and fall baseball action.
Sayre Eagles Win Battle for Beckham County
In Class A District 1 football, the Sayre Eagles triumphed over the Merritt Oilers with a 26-6 win. This victory moves Sayre to 4-2 overall and 2-1 in the district, while Merritt falls to 1-5 overall and 0-3 in district play. Elsewhere in the district:
- Fairview beat Crescent 56-26
- Hooker bombed Cashion 54-14
- Hinton topped Watonga 23-6
Fairview and Hooker now lead the district with 3-0 records, while Crescent, Watonga, and Merritt sit at the bottom with 0-3 records.
4A District 1 Football Results
Class 4A District 1 saw some intense action:
- Woodward defeated Douglass 27-6
- Elgin shut out Bridge Creek 44-0
Elgin and Wford are tied for the district lead with 3-0 records, while Elk City, Cache, Woodward, and Bridge Creek all sit at 1-2.
Small School Fast-Pitch and Fall Baseball
The small school fast-pitch and fall baseball tournaments wrapped up over the weekend:
- In Class A fast-pitch semifinals, AB fell to Caddo 6-1, finishing as State Semifinalists with a 37-8 record.
- Leedey made it to the Class B title game but lost to Stuart 6-0, earning a silver ball and a 32-12 record.
In Class B fall baseball, Hammon lost to Calumet 15-0 in the semifinals. FCB defeated Calumet in the state finals for the third consecutive time.
4A Fast-Pitch State Tournament Bracket Released
Elk City Elkettes vs. Weatherford – 4A State Softball Championship Round 1
The Class 4A fast-pitch state tournament bracket is out! The Elk City Elkettes will face Wford in the first round at Noon on Thursday at Hall of Fame Stadium, OKC. Wford has won both district matchups against Elk City this season, but the Elkettes are ready for a comeback!

College Football Recap
It was a rough weekend for Oklahoma Sooners fans. OU suffered a 34-3 loss to Texas in the Red River Showdown, dropping out of the Top 25 rankings for the first time since 2022. In other major college football matchups:
- Ohio State came up short against Oregon 32-31
- Georgia outscored Mississippi State 41-31
- Tennessee fought back to beat Florida 23-17 in OT
MLB Playoffs
In MLB postseason news, the Dodgers took a 1-0 lead in the NLCS with a 9-0 win over the Mets. However, the Mets bounced back in Game 2 with a 6-0 lead early on. In the ALCS, the Yankees will face Cleveland tonight.
