A
fatal car crash occurred on the evening of December 2, at
approximately 6:15 PM, just east of the intersection of South Falcon
Road and West 20th Street in Elk City.
The
incident involved a 2018 Nissan driven by 79-year-old Martha A.
Stumbaugh, a resident of Elk City. According to authorities,
Stumbaugh’s vehicle was traveling westbound on West 20th Street
when it made a sudden hard left turn into a ditch. The vehicle
continued through the ditch before coming to rest on its wheels in
the entrance of a driveway.
Stumbaugh
was flown to OU Medical Center, where she was admitted in critical
condition. Tragically, she succumbed to her injuries the following
day, December 3, according to medical staff.
Authorities
report that a medical issue may have contributed to the crash, though
the exact cause remains under investigation.
