COLLEGE FOOTBALL PLAYOFFS
The quarterfinals of the inaugural 12 team college football playoffs hit the field over the new years holiday. NYE saw Penn St hold off Boise St 31-14 to win the Fiesta Bowl. New Years Day started with the Texas Longhorns and AZ St Sun Devils playing a classic in the Peach Bowl. The Horns led by 16 in the 4th quarter but Sparky came back to tie it and send it into OT. AZ State scored a TD in their first possession and led 31-24 with Texas facing a 4th and 13 from their own 28. Quinn Ewers hit Matthew Golden with a 28 yd TD pass to send it into a 2nd OT. Texas scored and converted the two point conversion to lead 39-31, and that’s how it would end with a Texas INT on 3rd down for AZ State. Cam Skattebo was unbelievable in a losing effort for the Sun Devils. He ran for 143 and 2 scores. Caught 8 passes for 99 yards. He also threw a 42 yard TD pass. The second game of the day was not close. Ohio St scored the first 34 and blew away the previously undefeated Oregon Ducks 41-21. Superstar true freshman WR Jeremiah Smith caught 7 passes for 187 yards and 2 TDs. One semifinal is set with Texas and Ohio St set to matchup in the Cotton Bowl next Friday night. Penn st awaits the winner of this afternoon’s Georgia/Notre Dame game in the Sugar Bowl. Notre Dame leads Georgia 13-3 at halftime.
THUNDER WIN ON NYE; HOST CLIPPERS TONIGHT
The Ok City Thunder won their franchise record tying 12th straight on New Years Eve inside the Paycom Center. OKC trailed Minnesota 65-53 with 8:30 to play in the 3rd quarter when the Thunder mashed the gas. They outscored the T Wolves 36-10 to close the quarter up 14. They cruised in the 4th to a 113-105 win. Shai Gilgeous Alexander poured in 40 to lead Ok City. They get back at it tonight against the Clippers. We’ll have it on 98.1 fm and 1240 am. Pregame gets started at 5:30 with the tip to come at 7.
ELK CITY AT ALTUS TOMORROW
