What do you get when bluegrass and red-dirt make a baby? You get Drew Cobb, the millennial mixologist of Red-Dirt/ Texas-country music. Kentucky born, Oklahoma raised, Drew escaped a destiny of coal mines and oil fields by exploiting his gift of gab/ numbness to humility. Heavily influenced by terrestrial radio as a child, Drew set his sights on becoming a part of it as soon as he entered the 6th grade. An alumni of Southwestern Oklahoma State University’s mass communications department, it was there where Drew began making a name for himself through online media, producing everything from music to video in his makeshift home studio. Through those collegiate endeavors, Drew garnered thousands of online views and impressions during a time when social media was in it’s infancy.
Despite finding moderate online success, it was still RADIO that staked the claim on Drew’s heart. Fast forward a decade and some change, Drew now hosts “The Backroads” weekdays 3pm-6pm on 96.5 KECO FM, the most popular Red-Dirt and Texas country program in Western Oklahoma and the Eastern Texas Panhandle. Drew is an advocate for ALL music, but has a knack for serving his base, mostly rough and rugged folks who spend their days on oil rigs and ranches. When Drew isn’t cracking jokes or spinning tunes on his afternoon drive show, you can catch him at 10 o’clock each morning on KECO hosting the area’s #1 buy/sell/trade call-in show, “Tradio”. But wait…yes… there’s more. For the “Classic Hits” junkies of the southwestern world, you can wake up with “Mountain Man” and Drew from 7am-9am M-F on sister station KOOL94.3FM (The Mountain Drew Show).
Drew is the type of guy who would win the lottery and STILL choose to live in a double wide trailer. He’s the type of guy who DRINKS the cup of gravy after he’s done dipping the chicken tenders. Think Forrest Gump with a slightly higher IQ and MUCH better hair, and THAT’s what you get with Drew Cobb: “The Swiss army knife of traditional and digital media”.
