Another local sheriff has announced his intention to retain his position.
Roger Mills County Sheriff Darren Atha announced recently that he plans to run for re-election for the position that he’s held since 2015. Atha says although the position is an elected one, he prides himself in not being a politician.
Sheriff Atha, who grew up near Berlin, says his experience in law enforcement started in Roger Mills County, employed as a part time jailer and dispatcher.
Atha says he will be running as a Republican. As of press time no formal announcement as to who would challenge Atha has been made. If he does draw an opponent, the filing period for county positions takes place April 8 – 10.
