Another staff member of the Beckham County Sheriff’s Department was exposed to fentanyl.

According to Sheriff Derek Manning, the incident occurred late last week when a detention officer was exposed to the dangerous opioid during the booking in process of an arrested sex offender.

Manning said the officer has recovered and will not experience long lasting side effects due to the exposure. He said he plans to re-visit the book in policy to hopefully reduce or prevent possible exposures from happening in the future.

This is the second exposure of fentanyl in the last four weeks with the first exposure taking place on September 25 during a traffic stop that saw a Beckham County Deputy get exposed. He too was treated with Narcan by his partner.

He also recovered from that exposure.
