The filing period for municipal office candidates in Oklahoma ran from Monday through Wednesday, with candidates submitting their declarations for city council positions in Custer and Washita counties.
Custer County Candidates
Filing at the Custer County Election Board, two candidates have entered the race for City of Thomas Councilmember, Ward No. 2:
Ronald Dean Smith, 62, Thomas, OK
Lois Windberry, 67, Thomas, OK
Both candidates are running as nonpartisan contenders for the city council seat.
Washita County Candidates
In Washita County, two candidates have filed for the City of Cordell Councilmember, Ward No. 3 (Unexpired Term):
James Newman Jr., 55, Cordell, OK
Darryl Anthony, 79, Cordell, OK
Like the race in Thomas, the Cordell council election will be nonpartisan.
Next Steps in the Election Process
Candidates seeking to challenge any of the filings have until February 7, 2025, to submit a contest of candidacy. Challenges can only be initiated by other candidates for the same office unless the candidate is unopposed.
The nonpartisan General Election to decide these city council positions is scheduled for April 1, 2025.
