On Friday, August 9, a disturbance involving a Clinton man at a convenience store escalated into a violent altercation at another location in Clinton. The incident resulted in the arrest of the suspect and injuries to two police officers.

A probable cause affidavit revealed that Clinton police officers were dispatched to the store in the 1300 block of Gary Boulevard in response to a report of a person causing a disturbance. The man was later identified as 20-year-old Alexis Borjas-Ojeda. Dispatch later informed the officers that Borjas-Ojeda had fled the store and was heading east on Frisco Avenue.

Police located Borjas-Ojeda at a restaurant on Avant Avenue. It was reported that earlier in the afternoon, he had been trespassed from the restaurant at the owner’s request. Upon arrival at the restaurant, officers found the suspect engaged in a heated argument with an employee.

When officers attempted to escort him out of the restaurant, he resisted arrest, challenging the officers by asking if they planned to “use force.” Borjas-Ojeda tensed up and resisted as officers tried to subdue him. An officer took the man to the ground as the suspect kicked and struggled. During the struggle, Borjas-Ojeda allegedly bit one of the responding officers, causing injury.

In response to the bite, one of the officers delivered a compliance strike to Borjas-Ojeda’s face, which successfully stopped the attack. However, the man continued to resist as officers attempted to handcuff him, resulting in further bites and violent behavior.

More officers arrived on the scene shortly afterward and assisted in restraining Borjas-Ojeda. Despite their efforts, Borjas-Ojeda continued to kick and resist while being placed into a patrol car. Officers were eventually able to subdue him and transported him to Clinton Regional Hospital for medical clearance.

At the hospital, Borjas-Ojeda remained combative, kicking at both officers and hospital staff. He was placed in soft restraints and sedated to allow for treatment. After receiving medical clearance, Borjas-Ojeda was transported to the Custer County Jail, where he was booked on charges of assault and battery on a police officer, obstructing an officer in the discharge of his duties, resisting arrest, and trespassing.

Both officers involved in the incident were treated for bite injuries.
