Clinton, OK – A Clinton man was arrested on February 7th after allegedly attempting to break into a residence on South 5th Street, according to court documents filed in Custer County.
Jesse Moses Boyd, 20, is facing a felony charge of attempted burglary in the second degree, as outlined in an affidavit filed by the Custer County District Attorney’s Office.
According to the probable cause affidavit, officers responded to a call about a burglary in progress at a home on South 5th Street around 11:33 p.m. The homeowner told officers they were arriving home when they saw a man near the side door of the residence. The suspect, later identified as Boyd, was allegedly tampering with the door handle and appeared to be trying to gain entry.
The homeowner confronted Boyd, who turned around with his hands up and claimed he was only looking for a cigarette. The homeowner then chased him away while calling the police.
Officers later examined the home and found damage to the door frame and handle, estimating the cost of repairs at around $200. Boyd was found nearby on the 100 Block of South 5th Street and taken into custody. He was transported to the Clinton City Jail before being booked on an attempted burglary charge.
Court records indicate that Boyd could face up to three and a half years in prison if convicted. The court has found probable cause for the charge, and further legal proceedings are expected.
