As the heat wave continues throughout western Oklahoma, local authorities are asking the public to take extra precaution if one intends to go outside during the hottest parts of the day.

Elk City City Manager Tom Ivester, who has trained in extreme heat conditions with the Oklahoma National Guard, said the best advice he can give is to stay indoors between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. and avoid strenuous outdoor activities.

Ivester said city crews who work outside have adjusted their hours to combat the heat.

Ivester added that The City has announced that due to the heat, activities at Ackley Park including the train, carousel and miniature golf will change their hours with park activities only taking place between 8 p.m. and 10 p.m.

Forecasters predict on onslaught of heat for the area for the next few days with the triple digit heat expected to continue well into next week with very slim rain chances.
