A controlled burn on the east side of Elk City got out of hand yesterday, but it could have been worse.
According to Elk City Assistant Fire Chief Billy Sizemore, the controlled burn took place a mile east of the Elk City Walmart, just off of east 7th street. Sizemore says the burn got out of hand and made its way into a junk pile that contained, among other things, tires.
Sizemore says there were no injuries or structural damage as a result of the fire. He said emergency personal were on hand for just over an hour battling the blaze.
