A California man received assault charges in Beckham County recently after being involved in an accident on Interstate 40 last month.

According to a probable cause affidavit filed by the Beckham County Sheriff’s Department, deputies were dispatched to an accident at the 29 mile marker on I-40 on February 12. When they arrived they were told that the driver of the wrecked semi, later identified as being 32-year-old Taljinder Singh of Lathrop, California, would not exit the vehicle and was acting strange.

The affidavit stated that when EMS personal began evaluating Singh, he attempted to attack them.

The court document said that when deputies attempted to extract the man from the semi, he would become violent towards them by using a rolled up notebook and swinging it at the deputies.

It was reported that at one point the man allegedly struck one of the deputies on the side of the head with his hand.

Ultimately deputies were able to deploy their taser on the man, causing him to stop being violent and allowing the deputies to extract the man from the semi.

He was then placed in handcuffs and taken to a nearby hospital. After being evaluated and released from the hospital, he was transported to and booked into the Beckham County Jail.

Singh was charged with one count of assault and battery on a police officer and one count of assault and battery on a medical care provider last week.
