Drought Conditions Deteriorate Across Western Oklahoma

Drought conditions in western Oklahoma continue to get worse and worse with the majority of one county in the area considered to be in an “extreme drought”.

According to the latest data from the U.S. Drought Monitor, all except the northwest corner of Beckham County is considered to be in an “extreme drought”. Parts of Greer County, the western side of Washita County, and all of Harmon County are described as being in “extreme drought” conditions as well.

According to the data that was released on Thursday, the rest of western Oklahoma is described as being in “severe drought” conditions.

So when will moisture come? According to the National Weather Service, the next best chance of precipitation comes with a cold front late Friday night, going into Saturday that will see temperatures drop into the 30s for daytime highs on the weekend. However that best chance of rain is only forecasted to be at 17%.
