During the regular monthly meeting of the Elk City Commission Monday night, the Commission unanimously voted to reject the lone bid from SpeedBowl LLC for a proposed lease of the Elk City Race Track.
Before the vote, Elk City Police Chief Eddie Holland explained to city leaders why the bid should be rejected. He cited the city’s bid proposal, posted on March 1, which required a one-year lease as mandated by state law, stated that the property would be leased in “as is” condition, and required a monetary consideration to be paid to the City by the bidder.
Holland also noted that the bid requested $30,000 from the city for track improvements, free water, two water trucks, and free garbage services.
Later, City Attorney Ryan Meacham stated that it would be against state law for the city to enter into a contract lasting longer than 12 months.
Rod Fauver with SpeedBowl explained the need for the requested funds in the bid.
It was noted that the Commission would be open to considering new bids to operate the race track at a future meeting.
