Elk City Firefighters battled a camper trailer fire Thursday afternoon on the east side of the city.

Officials say that camper was roughly two feet away from a trailer home that was occupied by four minors that varied in age.

According to information provided by Police Chief Eddie Holland, the fire was first spotted by an individual passing by the residence, which is located behind the La Quinta Inn. That individual successfully alerted the occupants inside the home where they were able to escape without injury.

Fire Chief Kyle Chervenka said it is suspected that a space heater caused the blaze.

Chief Chervenka also credited the quick response by firefighters to prevent the nearby home from catching fire.

Chief Chervenka also said crews battled a small grass fire earlier in the day that ignited a wooden fence. No structures were involved in that blaze.
