Elk City, OK – An Elk City man was arrested recently following an extensive investigation into a death last April.
According to a probable cause affidavit, the investigation began when authorities responded to a 911 call placed by 35-year-old Guadalupe Aguilar Sanchez III on April 22, reporting that a 35-year-old female was unresponsive.
EMS and police arrived to find Sims in critical condition. Despite resuscitation attempts, she was pronounced dead at the hospital. Toxicology reports later revealed her cause of death as combined toxicity from fentanyl, methamphetamine, and gabapentin.
Investigators uncovered evidence of drug use and distribution at Sanchez’s residence, which was described as uninhabitable. Items seized included drug paraphernalia, prescription medications, and electronic devices. Witness testimony and Facebook messages revealed Sanchez’s involvement in the distribution of illegal drugs, including, among others, methamphetamine.
Additionally, Sanchez allegedly delayed calling 911 after discovering the woman unresponsive and provided inconsistent information to EMS about her drug use. He later admitted to smoking methamphetamine with the woman prior to her death.
Court records indicate Sanchez used security cameras at his home to facilitate illegal activities and attempted to destroy evidence by resetting phones and tampering with electronic communications.
Sanchez has been charged with second-degree murder, distribution of controlled dangerous substances, maintaining a drug house, tampering with evidence, and disabling security equipment. He is being held on a $1 million bond at Beckham County Jail.
