An Elk City man was charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance and possession of marijuana in the Beckham County District Court on October 7th.

According to a probable cause affidavit, the investigation began on October 3rd when a Beckham County Sheriff’s deputy was made aware by a detention deputy at the Beckham County Detention Center that an inmate, later identified as 48-year-old David Mahan, had a property bag that allegedly contained marijuana and a vape pen. There was also reportedly a black case.

The deputy alleged that inside the black case, a yellow piece of plastic containing a crystal-like substance was discovered. This substance reportedly tested positive for methamphetamine.

The deputy then spoke with Mahan, who allegedly admitted to knowing that the suspected methamphetamine was with his other possessions. Mahan reportedly said that he “probably had a half a gram.”

Mahan is being held in the Beckham County Detention Center on a $500 bail for that charge. He is also being held after being arrested earlier this month for illegally possessing a firearm.
