An Elk City officer was honored for his actions last month when he entered a house engulfed with smoke and flames and pulled a man out.

Sgt. Colt Lowry received a citation from District 55 Rep. Nick Archer during Wednesday afternoon’s City Commissioners proceedings.

The incident occurred on November 30 when Elk City emergency personal were dispatched to a house fire in the 900 block of West 1st Street.

Sgt. Lowry was the first on the scene where he would find the unconscious home owner near the back door where he had entered. The man, later identified as being 88-year-old Dick Carr, would be pulled from the home by Lowry and taken to Great Plains Regional Medical Center for care, but then transported to OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City where unfortunately he would succumb to his injuries the next day.

It is believed the fire was started by a space heater in a bathroom.
