A Foss man faces charges after being arrested in Elk City on a complaint of failing to register as a sex offender.

According to a press release provided by the Elk City Police Department, 43-year-old Christopher Lee Pitts was arrested Saturday night outside of a business located in the 1300 Block of W. 3rd Street after reports and complaints from the public began to surface that a possible sex offender was with local juveniles. The press release stated that an investigation began in which an Elk City patrolman took the lead and was very thorough in his documentation of the interactions with Pitts over time to demonstrate a continued pattern and to assure the case against Pitts would survive court and the legal process.

The release stated that at no time was the Police Department aware of any specific threat posed by Pitts.

Pitts is designated as an aggravated offender and has been registering in Washita County, however, police said The City of Elk City, nor Beckham County has had notification of Pitts registering in their jurisdictions and ask that if anyone has any additional information that may be useful in this investigation to contact the Elk City Police Department.

Charges against Pitts are pending in Beckham County.

Court records show that Pitts was convicted of first degree rape in Beckham county in 2002, and charged with failure to register as a sex offender in Custer County in 2012.
