Roger Mills County, OK – A tragic two-vehicle collision occurred early Sunday morning, January 5, 2025, at approximately 5:16 a.m. on US-283, seven miles south of Cheyenne near E 1040 Road. The accident claimed the lives of two individuals and left one critically injured.
According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, a 2015 Ford F-350 driven by Rene G. De La Cruz, 59, of Elk City, was traveling northbound on US-283 when it began to fishtail, entering the southbound lanes. A 2021 Nissan NV3500 driven by Misti D. Morris, 39, of Cheyenne, collided with the passenger side of the Ford F-350.
Misti D. Morris was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Berlin Fire Department. She was pinned in the vehicle for over five hours before being freed by first responders.
The passenger in the Ford F-350, 24-year-old Thomas J. Stampul of Sayre, was also pronounced dead at the scene.
Rene G. De La Cruz sustained critical injuries, including trauma to the head, trunk, arms, and legs. He was initially transported to Great Plains Regional Hospital in Elk City by Roger Mills EMS and later transferred to OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City by Elk City EMS, where he remains in critical condition.
The cause of the collision remains under investigation by authorities.
