A fatal crash occurred on I-40 in Wheeler County early Thursday morning, resulting in one death. The incident took place around 8:44 a.m., approximately 2.7 miles east of Shamrock.

According to the Texas Highway Patrol, the collision involved two vehicles, both Chrysler Pacificas. Vehicle 1, a 2022 Chrysler Pacifica driven by 60-year-old Zeno Baranshakaje of Amarillo, Texas, was traveling westbound in the left lane. Vehicle 2, a 2018 Chrysler Pacifica driven by 67-year-old Pamela Hanna of Tucson, Arizona, was in the right lane.

Authorities report that Baranshakaje’s vehicle veered into the right lane and struck Hanna’s vehicle. This caused Hanna to lose control, sending her vehicle sliding off the north side of the road and into a ditch. The vehicle rolled over multiple times before coming to a stop.

Pamela Hanna was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Wheeler County Justice of the Peace. Hanna was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash and was ejected from the vehicle. Both Baranshakaje and his passenger, Justine Nduwimana, were unharmed and wearing seatbelts.

The road was clear and dry at the time of the accident.

The crash remains under investigation by Texas Highway Patrol Troopers.
