Fire crews in the area were busy battling a grass fire in rural Beckham County, northwest of Elk City, on Monday afternoon.
Elk City Fire Chief Kyle Chervenka said his crews were called out to the blaze just after 3:30 p.m.
“It looked like the fire started in the front yard of a residence, possibly due to a broken insulator on a power pole. The fire quickly spread into a field that had not been grazed in a few years. It ended up burning just under 120 acres. We protected all structures, but a couple of old cars and a small outbuilding were burned.”
Chervenka said that along with Elk City crews, the Canute, Carter, and Berlin Fire Departments all responded to the scene. He also added that crews returned to the area Tuesday morning to knock down some hot spots.
No injuries were reported.
