A Foss woman was hospitalized Thursday afternoon after being involved in a one vehicle accident in Beckham County.

According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol’s collision report, the wreck occurred just after 2:00 p.m. Thursday on State Highway 152, five miles south and one mile west of Elk City when 32-year-old Crystal Niavez departed the road to the right, overcorrected the 2004 GMC Yukon she was driving, departed the road to the left, overturned, struck a fence, continued to overturn before coming to rest on the driver’s side.

OHP said Niavez was pinned inside the vehicle for 15 minutes before being freed by the Elk City Fire Department.

Niavez was transported to Great Plains Regional Medical Center in Elk City before be transferred to OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City where she was admitted with an arm injury. She was last listed to be in stable condition.

In a separate accident on Wednesday afternoon, snow was to blame for the one vehicle wreck that put a Blair man in the hospital.

OHP said 67-year-old Johnny Mealer was transported to Jackson County Memorial Hospital after wrecking his 2007 Toyota Tacoma at 3:45 Wednesday afternoon on State Highway 19, 1 mile east of Blair in Jackson County.

OHP reported that Mealer was westbound on the highway in snowy road conditions and lost control which led to him rolling the vehicle four times.

Mealer was extracted from the vehicle by the Blair Fire Department before being transferred to the hospital.

He was last listed to be in critical condition with head injuries.
