During the latest meeting of the Elk City Commission, a new mayor was appointed to serve out the remaining term of outgoing mayor Nick Archer.

Archer was recently elected to the Oklahoma House of Representatives in District 55 and will assume those duties next spring.

Former Ward 1 Commissioner Cory Spieker was sworn in to serve as mayor of the city during last night’s meeting, and he says Elk City is on “a roll” and he wants to see that continue.

Spieker says although the Ward 1 commissioner seat is now vacated, a local banker has already expressed interest in filling the position.

The two will serve out the rest of the terms of the seats, which will run out in April. Filing for the positions will take place shortly after the New Year with elections being held in April.
