Local Sheriff’s Office Preparing For New School Year

With multiple schools in Beckham County opening their doors Thursday for first day of classes, local law enforcement are preparing to keep school districts safe.

Beckham County Sheriff Derek Manning says his staff receives tours of each school building in the county in an effort to better prepare for possible emergencies.

Manning says the tours are led by School Resource Officer, Sgt. Wendy Holland.

Schools in Beckham county starting today (Thursday) include Elk City, Merritt and Sweetwater. Schools starting on Thursday the 17th include Sayre and Erick.

Other area schools starting today include Canute, Cheyenne, Leedey, Clinton, Burns Flat-Dill City, Sentinel, Cordell and Arapaho-Butler.

Hammon started their classes on Wednesday.
