Clinton, OK – A Clinton man was arrested following a high-speed chase involving a four-wheeler through public streets, parking lots, and open pastures on January 4, 2025. The suspect, identified as 36-year-old Mark Vincent Herndon, faces charges of endangering others while eluding law enforcement, a felony punishable by up to five years in prison and fines ranging from $1,000 to $5,000.
According to court documents filed in the District Court of Custer County, the pursuit began when a sheriff’s deputy spotted a four-wheeler without front or rear lights running a stop sign near First Street and Gary Boulevard in Clinton. When the deputy attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver reportedly fled at high speeds, endangering other drivers and pedestrians by navigating through multiple public areas.
The chase led through a gravel parking lot, along streets, and into a pasture. The suspect eventually abandoned the vehicle near Glen Smith Road and fled on foot. A female passenger was detained and told authorities that Herndon had instructed her to leave the four-wheeler.
A drone operated by the Clinton Fire Department helped locate Herndon, who was found walking on Glen Smith Road without his coat. When questioned, Herndon admitted he fled to avoid losing the four-wheeler, which he claimed belonged to his father. Authorities confirmed that the vehicle, registered to another individual, was not reported stolen.
Herndon was taken into custody and charged with eluding a police officer, reckless driving, and driving without headlights. He is being held in the Custer County Jail on a $15,000 bond, with his next court appearance scheduled for January 27.
