It was a busy weekend on local highways for emergency personal with multiple wrecks occurring in western Oklahoma.

One wreck proved to be fatal in Caddo County.

According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, that wreck occurred on Saturday afternoon just before 4 p.m. on OK-58 near Eakly when the 2005 Toyota Tundra driven by 48-year-old Avery D. Swarts failed to negotiate a curve and departed the road to the left. The vehicle would strike a fence and rolled an undetermined amount of times, ejecting the driver.

Troopers said Swarts was pronounced deceased at the scene by Carnegie EMS.

Troopers also said that Swarts was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.

Another accident, also in Caddo County, put a Mountain View man in the hospital.

OHP said this single vehicle accident occurred on Sunday at 5 p.m. on a county road near Anadarko, when while driving a 2012 Nissan Altima, 36-year-old William H. Shepherd lost control of the vehicle while crossing a bridge and departed the road to the left before going up an embankment which caused the vehicle to overturn.

Shepherd was transported to OU Trauma in Oklahoma City where he was admitted in fair condition with head, neck, and trunk internal injuries.

Two people were sent to the hospital following a crash near Lone Wolf in Kiowa County on Sunday.

According to the OHP, the two vehicles involved were traveling opposite ways on OK-9 when a trailer came loose from a Ford F-150, crossed the road, and hit the 2020 Nissan Rogue driven by 41-year-old Kristine Shelton of Granite.

Shelton was pinned in the vehicle for approximately 20 minutes before being transported to OU Trauma.

She was listed in fair condition. Her passenger, 45-year-old Rogina Beeson of Granite, was taken to a nearby hospital, treated and released with minor injuries.
