Burns Flat, OK – A European aerospace company is considering Oklahoma for its U.S. base of operations. Dawn Aerospace, based in the Netherlands, wants to bring its suborbital spaceplane project to the state’s spaceport in Burns Flat.
The company has approached the Oklahoma Space Industry Development Authority (OSIDA) about a possible agreement to station its Aurora Mk-II spaceplane and establish U.S. operations at the former Air Force base.
OSIDA’s board will meet Friday to discuss and possibly vote on the proposal. Director Craig Smith is set to present the plan.
The Mk-II is designed to fly faster than an SR-71 and higher than any current aircraft. It operates like a plane but performs like a rocket, taking off from standard 1000m runways and flying multiple times a day at low cost. It’s already completed 50 successful test flights.
Dawn Aerospace also supplies green propulsion systems for satellites and operates in the Netherlands, New Zealand, France, and the U.S., with clients in over 10 countries.
