Weatherford, OK – Southwestern Oklahoma State University (SWOSU) has been recognized as a Certified Healthy Campus by the Oklahoma State Department of Health. The designation highlights SWOSU’s ongoing commitment to maintaining a healthy environment for students, faculty, and staff.

SWOSU earned the Merit certification in the Certified Healthy Oklahoma program, which acknowledges organizations that promote health and wellness through policies and initiatives that contribute to a healthier community.

SWOSU’s Wellness Center plays an important role in providing activities and resources that support well-being on campus. The facility offers fitness equipment, and indoor track, basketball and volleyball courts, a rock-climbing wall, and dedicated spaces for group activities. It also houses the Center for Health and Well-being, which provides programs focused on nutrition, sleep, stress management, and other key aspects of a healthy lifestyle. Additionally, the Bulldog Food and Resource Center helps address food insecurity among students. Beyond campus recreation, the SWOSU Bulldog Wellness program and newsletter encourages faculty, staff, and students to maintain a healthy lifestyle through wellness activities, benefits programs, and online coaching.

Through these initiatives, the Wellness Center contributes to a healthier campus environment and supports the university’s ongoing wellness efforts.

This recognition demonstrates the university’s strong commitment to the health and well-being of its students, faculty, and staff, signifying a proactive approach to creating a supportive environment that works to improve wellness across all aspects of campus life,” said Susan Ellis, Director of the Center for Health & Wellbeing.

As part of the recognition, SWOSU will receive an official certificate in the coming months. Additionally, the Certified Healthy Oklahoma event will take place virtually in summer 2025, where recognized institutions can learn more about advancing health and wellness initiatives.

The Certified Healthy Oklahoma program is an initiative of the Oklahoma State Department of Health, aimed at encouraging healthier environments in schools, businesses, campuses, and other organizations.
